Frédéric Frégevize

1770 - 1849
Born in Geneva, Frédéric Frégevize came from a family of Huguenots that had settled in Berlin. Practicing enamel painting at the start of his career, he retained from that early activity its painstaking care for details and precision of line, qualities he carried over into his landscapes, portraits, history and genre painting.

He worked for many years between Berlin and Geneva, and after serving as a professor and member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin from 1820 on, settled definitively in Geneva in 1829. Frégevize became a specialist of idyllic views of mountain and lake, in particular of the region around Lake Geneva, the Rhone Valley and the Genevan countryside.
