Mainly centred on painting, David Hominal’s practice usually operates through cycles, both in its abstract and figurative expression. Images and objects isolated from their context appear at the centre of the canvas. Drawn from personal and everyday sources like the worlds of visual art, dance, and music, these motifs are usually painted with swift movements, without retouching. This freedom and spontaneity of execution gives the works a tension between the subject’s appropriation and deconstruction.

For his recent series exploring the cosmos flower, the artist chose for his subject the flowerbeds in his own garden, located near his Berlin studio. He creates each composition based on video images, preferring to work from movement. For Cosmos dans le vent (2023), Hominal chose a very large format, from which the white flower bursts forth with urgency and power.
