Véronique Filozof

Untitled, 1955
Indian ink on paper
50.0 x 47.5 cm
Born in Basel, Véronique Filozof set off for France at a young age and worked for the Red Cross during the Second World War. She subsequently began an artistic practice inspired by the poems of Jacques Prévert and Honoré de Balzac.

Better known for India ink drawings like those that have joined the Collection Pictet, Filozof mixed with the Parisian art world and artists Jean Dubuffet, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Jean Cocteau. Her drawings of castles, churches, and fortresses are reveries on seats of power that had become outmoded in post-war France.

Véronique Filozof’s work can be found in public collections in Switzerland and abroad, including those of the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Musée International d’Art Naïf in Nice.
