A window frame, a shingling made of scales, the slats of shutters: these are all details that describe the architecture, and that the artist wished to highlight by applying that “second skin” made of latex and fabric. Having trained as a seamstress before attending the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts, she made that imprint into something like a coat from the former private clinic (Bellevue, run by the Binswanger family in Kreuzlingen, Thurgau).
In the 1980s, the artist was often interested in spaces for their physical and psychological dimension. After first intervening in a prison, she continued this work in various social institutions where people stayed against their will, thus drawing an analogy between the building and the human body.
